Yellow Jackets Defeat Wildwood, February 27, 1955

The Leesburg Yellow Jackets defeated Wildwood in the Semifinals Friday night 34 to 26 to play in the finals Saturday when they take on the strong Apopka Blue Darters.

Apopka defeated Brooksville 56 to 41.

The Jackets played one of their worst offensive ballgames of the season, but won the game with their fine defensive play. Wildwood was scoreless in the first quarter while Leesburg scored only four points the score was 0 to 4 which is the lowest the Jackets have scored in a quarter for the entire season.

The second quarter was also slow with teh Jackets scoring six while Wildwood came up with five. The half ended 10 to five. The Jackets came into the third quarter with Walling being able to push through the defense and rack up seven points. Both teams had even scoring in the third quarter with 10 points each. Wildwood shot only six times in the first half and made two field goals and one foul shot but came back into the third quarter and hit four field goals and two foul shots with the Jackets hitting the same. The score read 20 to 15.

The fourth quarter Wildwood's sixpfoot-seven-inch center hit nine points to enable them to make 11 points. The Jackets scored 14 and was the best scoring quarter for the Jackets.



Walling was outstanding on offense scoring 14 points, but all the Jackets stood out on defense. Ford was high man for Wildwood with 13 points.
