All State 4A Teams Honor Leesburg Brandon Kelley, March 29, 2002

Leesburg's Brandon Kelley Made Second Team. Two Others Got Honorable Mentions.

Individual recognition is something that Leesburg senior guard Brandon Kelley has a problem accepting because he plays in a system that stresses balance and team goals rather than individual glory.

So, excuse Kelley if he doesn't seem overwhelmed by Thursday's announcement that he was named to the second team of the Class 4A Florida Sports Writers Association's all-state team.

"It [all-state] wasn't a big deal if I made it or if I didn't make it," said Kelley, a 5-foot-9 senior guard who averaged 13.9 points, 5.7 rebounds and 4.0 assists a game. "The big deal was going to the final four and trying to win state, but I am happy I got second team."
