LEESBURG — Kevin Honer, a recent graduate of Leesburg High School, has been spending his days at Hubert O. Dabney Pool in Leesburg, working as a lifeguard for the summer months.

After months of hoping and waiting, good news has arrived for Honer. Anthony Odom, coach at Barber-Scotia College in Concord, N.C., has offered Honer a grant-in-aid to play basketball, and Honer has happily accepted, and will sign when Odom returns to the school from Minnesota. The Sabres, 9-5 a year ago before an outbreak of the measles brought an end to the season, have four returning starters and an opening for a point guard that is Honer's for the taking.
