Leesburg Wants To Win This Rematch, January 18, 1999

January 18, 1999|By Herky Cush of The Sentinel Staff

Area basketball fans need to mark Jan. 27 on their calendars.

That is when Leesburg visits Ocala for a return meeting with Vanguard. The teams battled long and hard in a 72-69 decision that went Vanguard's way last week.

Vanguard Coach Jim Haley said he knew his team was the only district rival of the Yellow Jackets who could win in the Leesburg gym. Now the Yellow Jackets would like to think they are the only team that can win on the Knights' home turf.

Of course, the Knights' home court these days is primarily at Central Florida Community College because of the repairs being done to the Vanguard gym.

Lack of practice facilities, coupled with a very difficult schedule, has contributed to the Knights' 9-6 start this year.
