LEESBURG - Like an actor waiting for his moment in the spotlight, Brandon Broomfield was an understudy last year to teammates Robert Wright and Jay Sullivan.
With Wright and Sullivan graduated, this has been Broomfield's year to star. It is a star that has been shining brightly.
``I think for Brandon, there were a lot of unanswered questions, because he played behind Robert and Jay last year,'' Leesburg Coach Pat Todd said. ``The first question was, could he defend the bigger-sized players? The second was whether he would become a leader.''
The answer to both questions is: Yes.
Broomfield, The Lake Sentinel's athlete of the week, was instrumental in leading Leesburg to an 89-68 victory over Belleview in Friday night's Class 5A, District 7 championship game, getting 19 points and 11 rebounds.
