LEESBURG — Ryan Callahan could have been presented with great opportunities to see the country.

Lipscomb University in Nashville, Tenn., an NAIA school, and Santa Monica (Calif.) College, a junior college, were both interested in attaining the Leesburg High School basketball player's talents. But, Callahan wanted to stay near home.

Quietly, last weekend, Callahan decided to sign with Pasco-Hernando Community College in New Port Richey, about 1 1/2 hours away from Leesburg.

Former Leesburg player Courtney Wilson just finished his second year at PHCC.

''He talked to me about it,'' Callahan said of Wilson. ''He said it was a nice area and a nice town to go to. One of the big things was that I didn't want to go too far from home.''
