Jackets Clinch 27th FHSAA Regional Playoff Appearance, February 11, 2012

Leesburg Will Face Gainesville High School Tonight For the Class 6A District 5 Boys Basketball Championship.

LEESBURG 79, VANGUARD 66: The third-seed Knights (14-12) had no answer for Leesburg senior guard Joe Toolie.

Toolie buried nine 3-pointers on his way to a game-high 34 points, as the Yellow Jackets knocked off Vanguard for the third time in as many meetings this season.

"We exeucted our game plan pretty darn well, but you can't give up nine threes (to Toolie) like we did," Vanguard coach Philip Small said. "The first three or four that he made they got off offensive rebounds where we had to scramble and he made us pay.

"We didn't do a good job at all (on Toolie), but our kids never gave up and kept fighting."

Leesburg, last year's Class 4A state champion and the district's second seed, led 35-30 at halftime and then forced five turnovers during an 8-0 run to start the second half to gain control.

"We knew they were going to make a run and the turnovers we had really hurt us," Small said. "Still, I'm proud of my kids and I am proud of my seniors. We knew it was going to be a tall task against these guys and our guys gave it everything they had."
