The Leesburg High School boys basketball team is finding its stride.
The defending Class 4A state champions have struggled through a brutal opening month of the season -- a scheduled put together by coach Marcel Thomas to allow his team to round itself into postseason form.
Leesburg hosted South Lake Friday night in a Class 6A-District 5 contest, with the Yellow Jackets throttling the Eagles 76-42.
The Yellow Jackets improved to 4-2 with the win.
Taj Lake paced Leesburg with 17 points, including five 3 pointers. Tavian Cummings added 12 points.
South Lake was led by Dario Fletcher, who had 12 points. Daniel Klienschnitz, Kendall Knight and Cory Evanson had nine points.
Next up for both teams will be the Lake-Sumter County Championships, which will begin Wednesday at Leesburg.
Wednesday's only game will pit East Ridge against Mount Dora at 6 p.m. South Lake will South Sumter at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, while Leesburg will play the winner of Thursday's matchup between Umatilla and Wildwood at 8 p.m. on Friday.
Admission to the tournament is $5 on Wednesday, and $7 for Thursday, Friday and Saturday's games.
