LEESBURG - Run, run, run has been the good word coming out of the Leesburg Armory these warm Autumn afternoons as Leesburg High Basketball Coach Jeff Bramlett rounds his squad into shape for their home opener against Mainland on Tuesday, December 5.

The Jackets with a 17 and 11 record last year had to be content with the runner-up spot in the Orange Belt Conference trailing Apopka and pre-season dopesters have picked them no better than third for this year. Coach Bramlett and the boys may have something to say about that, though, before the season is up.

Blessed with the return of lettermen Bill Arnold, Max Wettstein, Buddy Stone, Danny Shay, and Billy Stephenson the Jackets are also able to call on Larry Williams, Stan Gideons, John Gray and Mike Huey, as well as Sophomores Tommy Brown, Clell Coleman, and Pete Seng.

Arnold at 6ft. 4 in., and Wettstein and Stone at 6 ft. 1 in., give the Jackets adequate height while Shay is a hard driving forward and Stephenson is fast becoming the play maker the Jackets need for a successful season. Bill McBride, with a football injury, and David Herlong with an injured hand are expected to join the squad later. McBride is expected to join them after the first of the year in time for OBC competition, while Herlong is still a big question mark as for as the team is concerned.

Local fans are sure to welcome the brand of ball Coach Bramlett is bringing to Leesburg. His quintet will employ the fast break with plenty of passing and shooting . The new look at Leesburg High will also feature some original plays that are sure to throw any set defense out the window.

Junior varsity games will tap off at 6:30, with varsity games at 8:00. The Armory will once more serve as home base for the Jackets.
