Robert Jones, from Leesburg, put on another dominating postseason performance scoring 35 points to lead the away team to a 121-111 win in the Corey Rolle Lake/Sumter senior all-star game at Mount Dora High School. The senior help lead Leesburg High School to its 2nd State Title in the school's storied history. It was the Jackets first State Title since 1977 ending a 34 year drought.
The boys basketball senior all-star game for players in Lake and Sumter counties, which has been named for former Eustis coach Corey Rolle, who died on March 3, 2010.
Paul Gombwere, of Montverde, added 19 points.
Home’s Teron Wallace, from Leesburg, had 23 points. Joey De La Rosa of Montverde added 18 points.
Wallace also show his long range shooting abilities and won the 3-point contest. Wallace and Jones impressed the college scouts that were attendance with their scoring abilities. Both played unselfishly during the season and got a chance to show scouts they have offensive games to carry a team if needed.
“We had a good turnout," Mount Dora coach Ariel Betancourt said. "We had about 300 people here. It was a lot of fun with a lot of good talent. Everyone had a good time.”
